My Subconscious is a Pervert
77
A conversation I had this morning
ME: (waking up a bit confused, but admittedly happy) Really? Where did that come from? (as I recalled a few visually stimulating details in my erotic dream from last night)
MY SUBCONSCIOUS: You know you wanted it.
ME: Well, actually that's not me. I would never....would I?
MY SUBCONSCIOUS: Yes, you would and you did. I release your deepest desires. I let you act before thinking and react without filters. I give you pleasure (like a naughty, but fulfilling dream) or pain (repressed memories and emotions resurfacing).
ME: (a deep sigh). Wow!
Default Mode: Sex
You think you know yourself and then you have one of those crazy sex dreams.
I've always wondered why the human's default mode seems to be sex. We're thinking about it or something related, even though sometimes we are completely unaware of it. Sex is the ultimate primal instinct which is largely influenced by reproduction of the species and our strong desire to seek pleasure.
Ever heard of female orgasms and male ejaculation (wet dreams) during sleep? At times, when we're sleeping, sex is on the brain. Why do we have sex on the brain subconsciously? Does this effect our conscious decisions? A lot of questions to answer, so get your mind out of the gutter and let's explore your subconscious sex muscle.
I've got the guys' attention!
It all started with Freud
Was Freud right in stating that most of our personalities are dictated by sexual stages in development (anal, oral, phallic symbols, Oedipus Complex, etc) and sex-related experiences from infancy to adulthood? He made a lot of strong statements about the role of sex in our lives and while it was creepy how he discussed these sex stages in children, it's very much a reality that goes deep within our brain as a species centuries ago- it follows us no matter our age.
If taken out of context, Freud is laughable, but truly this twisted guy had a great deal to offer the wondrous world of psychology. In his theories, almost everything was about sex. Just look at our society, was he really so off base? Whose laughing now- sex sells and Freud, if alive today, would have been a billionaire.
Back to the hot and naughty dreams though...Freud made the bold statement that all dreams were some sort of repressed sexuality. After all, he lived in times during which sex was not casually discussed or would there be any images of it floating around like today in every source of media.
Because of repressed sexuality, some women, instead of actually dreaming of sex or a partner, would dream in symbols representing a penis (sticks or rockets) or penetration (up and down or in and out actions). Basically, you have to be a pervert to live in Freud's world, but the subconscious is totally a pervert.
Perhaps you've heard of the id, ego, and superego. The id is a basic instinct drive within us- this little guy is the pervert within the subconscious. Our ego and superego override and cover up the insatiable needs of the id, but the subconscious is good at retaining all suppressed feelings and especially desires. These come out in various forms, but definitely in our dreams.
Lay back and enjoy the ride
Women's dreams of sex often increase with age whereas men's decrease over time. We now have studies to show women reach a sexual prime later in life than men so this makes perfect sense biologically. On the flip side almost 100% of young men have had a wet dream, but eventually grow out of them.
Sex dreams can be analyzed and applied to our current relationships- something lacking, someone we miss, something we need to feel or fill that we're not getting currently. Often though, the remedy for sex dreams is to just enjoy them for what their worth. For heterosexual men, it's not time to call your doctor or seriously worry if you have a homosexual encounter in a dream- yes, it's normal.
For women to dream they've been raped sometimes symbolizes a fantasy to be overpowered, but not hurt. Otherwise it can mean something significant and is worth looking into. If you did not find yourself laying back and 'enjoying the ride' and it is disturbing instead, then it can symbolize something more troubling in your life.
Subconscious; friend or foe?
You have to realize our subconscious is very active and we suppress it almost all day long. We do things against what we want to do- we're civilized for the most part, but our subconscious will never be civilized. It will drive us one way or the other and what we do with it; whether we act on it or just simply enjoy a moment of pleasure within our brain, is up to us.
We've all seen the cartoon portrayal of the subconscious as a little devil sitting on someone's shoulder, telling them exactly what they'd like to do, but know they shouldn't. The subconscious is purely selfish and feels oh so good and oh so right when it comes in the form of naughty nocturnal bliss (dreams).
The tricky part is that the subconscious and it's desires can seem so real and almost necessary to fulfill, but as Freud pointed out, the subconscious is not to be taken literal. Thank God, because some of those dreams can be sort of wacky. There are dream symbol books and various ways that subconscious messages can be interpreted. Overall, it's role is good. Sometimes it can shed light into issues we are avoiding and need to pay conscious attention to.This where that little angel on your shoulder comes in handy. We need to utilize the subconscious messages for good and sometimes for nothing at all. Yes, it is up to you to determine what is useful and what is junk or an outlet to be enjoyed and not read into.
Where the naughty dreams are...
Doing a little research about naughty dreams, I came across advertisements for supplements that make people have lucid dreaming, which is where the naughty dreams usually occur. I'm doubting the supplements actually work, but it tells us that people like these dreams and want more of them. Perhaps it's an innocent way of living vicariously through one's naughty ventures in their dreams. Either way, the possibility is attractive.
Lucid dreams are realistic and vivid- they also come in the form of nightmares as well. They can occur during pregnancy, taking certain medications or drugs, and during periods of deep REM sleep. The interesting aspect of lucid dreams is that the person can be aware they are dreaming and participate fully in their dreams or have control to wake themselves too.
Final thought
For all of you who are desperately wondering what the heck could Laura ("izettl") possibly be dreaming that inspired her to write about naughty dreams and subconscious sexuality....well, I can't tell you. I'd have to kill and frankly I'm just not a violent person. But I'll let your imagination run wild. Sleep tight and have good dreams! I know I will.

This was a great hub. It had lots of humor and many facts. As usual I enjoyed it, keep up the great work. here's your up!
You're right, dreams are our only escape from the oppressing society and our oppressed selves. The future belongs to those who will offer us how to orient our dreams. After all, we spend 8 hours a day (or a night I should say) doing nothing and being nothing. It's too precious a time to waste. I'm not talking about sexual imagery only. People have nightmares, uneasy dreams, etc. If we'll turn these 8 hours into pleasant (again, not necessarily sexual) sensations or meaningful but laidback meditations, people would wake up revitalized.
I used to have a dream journal where I put down my dreams in details and tried to see where their elements might have come from. A lot was from real life (seen movie, a suppressed desire, a conversation, etc.).
By the way, I wonder if there's such thing as a sexual nightmare (as in a dream): that is, a dream is sexual but it's not pleasant and it's rather frightening... Good hub.
Very open and honest Hub. Good information and thanks for sharing.
great hub! i really enjoyed reading this and I know many people have pondered the same thing in regards to places their mind goes while asleep and wondering where it came from. voting up!
Hmmm .. You're a class act. I've got to give it to you sis. A class act who doesn't WHO DOESN'T READ MY FREAKIN HUBS ANYMORE, but a class act none the less. I really don't know anyone else that does what you do the way you do it. You are quite simply .. special.
About the hub .. I'll let you kill me if you tell me what inspired this hub, but it'll have to wait until after the election and THP makes it's splash. Of course, due to my insatiable ego, I'd have to pull for something having to do with you and an older but powerful, good looking dude doing a Bonnie and Clyde on Washington D.C. but I guess that's what an over active subconscious gets me. (laughing)

I love those crazy sex dreams....it's the only way I get any
:)
@ princess g lol this hub just keeps getting better and better
Thanks for sharing. This is a very interesting topic. Especially the part about women vs. men in later stages of life. Not many people are willing to discuss their erotic sexual dreams so research must be a little tough. Voted up and interesting (very). Guess it's time to go take a nap (HeHe!)
@princess g
LOL. Check out my lucid dreaming article. You'll certainly love them even more when you're totally awake while dreaming.
On the humorous side Izettl, I saw in my email a response and ventured here for a few moments. I agree with dreams not matching the books about them. The other night I kept waking to the same dream. I was falling and would never land - anxiety for sure. Then wake up and begin over a few times that night. I was exhausted the next morning.
Oh, the humorous part. I went back and looked the article over focusing on the pics while not reading. Talk about naughty - smile.
The first pic cracks me up. It looks like someone just finished a puff on a cigarette, the exhale caused the image of the brain (sex on the brain) with sex in a flashing neon light, which gives meaning to the old adage of smoking after sex. But, that could be a hub in itself. That tells you where my mind is at - LOL.

Nice read izetti, some of us dream while we are awake... then the perversion becomes dangerous... for in waking dreams that resemble real life... and one might be inclined to believe they are real and act upon them... or some dreams of sexual nature manifest themselves to become part of real life, the Transsexual for instance dream they are women all of their lives... then one day the dream takes over and becomes the person, from that point on the dream, the perversion becomes the norm and it is not such a big deal to lose their dreaded equipment...the perverted thought becoming a psychosis and that in turn becoming real life... almost like wishing a living hell upon oneself... so perversion does have it's own kink... that being it might and could come true...
VERY well done.
Thirty-some years ago, I heard a (true) story about a man who was dying. No one could figure out why, until....
He had become a monk at an early age. Extremely devout, he had suppressed his conscious awareness so thoroughly that NOT EVEN in his dreams did he experience anything sexual in any way shape, or form.
With no outlet, the force of the Kundalini (sex drive) had literally begun TWISTING his spine in the most tortuous manner imaginable. He was in extreme pain, facing an early death...at age 32.
The healer who finally diagnosed him correctly was able to get across to him what had happened, and taught him to masturbate. (Don't ask me how that worked--it was never brought up. Wait, maybe I should rephrase that....)
The sufferer spoke openly about his ordeal, saying, "Much of the damage that was done to my body cannot be undone, but at least now I understand, and that helps a lot."
P.S. Um..referring back to YOUR "perverted subconscious"...did you mean what you said in the caption under the Sigmund Freud photo? That is, did you mean to say, "I would have paid big money to get a PEAK into his dreams?" Rather than "peek"? LOL!
Freud did make a name for himself in psychology by stressing the sexual aspects of our personalities. But there was a lot he never was able to comprehend as evidenced by one of his most famous statemnts: "What do women want?"
Great hub and well written. I'm looking forward to tonight now..... I think I will join you in your dreams. Let me know what time you plan on entering dream land and I will meet you there. Should I bring whip cream?
In dreams, we are all sexual beings. Great Hub!
Yeah, Will, but in my dreams, I'm a messed-up sexual being in the sense that...welllll....
Okay, the thing is, whenever I'm dreaming I'm about to get hot with a hottie, MY RECALL OF THE BEST PART IS NONEXISTENT. When I wake up, and even later on in the dream, got the foreplay, sometimes get the after stuff, but never the--
Dang! LOL!
Fortunately, at least, I can remember similar events when they occur in this outer, physical world. There is that.
Bottom line: I'm apparently repressed IN my dreams--or at least "blocked".
Wonderful hub, which was very interesting. I once dreamt that I had sex with a fat, bald ugly man who was totally repulsive. I know it was only a dream, but the disturbing thing was that I seemed to be enjoying myself!!! BTW my partner is slim, good-looking and has lots of hair, so I don't know where the dream came from. Maybe I'm just weird. Very enjoyable hub. "Sweet dreams." Lol.
Very interesting and entertaining - exactly what we get from a great writer such as you izettl!!! Love your boldness :)
What a great read. I love psychology and I was always very interested in the way that Freud thought everything was about sex. But, can you really fault him for that thought. After all, we are animals. Maybe we are more tame then those in the forest, but when it comes down to it, we have animal instincts, one of the main ones being to continue the race. Without an interest in sex, our race would fail to exist. Therefore, it is human nature to constantly have it on the brain - so we can reproduce.
Great hub - very entertaining and informative!
My mind is still in the gutter -- had to come back to visit... mmmwwwaaah!
izettl: You're telling me! LOL!
If I do not dream, does that mean I suppress nothing... also are the dreams I am having as a creative when I am awake, replacing my pervert.. if so... how do I get over there in your dream...lol...lol..lol.. and lastly... is perversion simply something that's not the norm... a glitch, a kink, a kiss and a wink...lol...
LOL -- we both have water in the background of our profile pic --- and you said maybe I'll see you in my dreams... with all that water I'm wondering if the dreams would be dry or wet.... what do you think? ;p
LOL -- hugs to you my friend... you are cool!!!!!!
Awesome Images, you have a great sense of humor, nice job!
Hi Izetti, what a great hub topic. It shows that sex sells because out of all your hubs I chose this one first. Freud may seem like a nutter from this distance in time but he did almost single-handed kick start a whole new science and in many ways I think some of his ideas still stand up (pun intended)
On Lucid dreams. Try sleeping with a nicotine patch on overnight. Seriously. Vote Up IU

Izettl, great article. It opens many doors. There is much to what you touched on. As you said, and with the suggested reading, it is a vast subject. Freud was into it for whatever reason, yet he makes good conclusions backed up with his limited, yet thorough research. The distinction between sex and intimacy was not made in your article opening another door, but you did touch on repression. Do you think there is a connection? My view on sex is that it is the highest form of communication in which its culmination is 'life,' (not necessarily pregnancy, but 'life')and that is a whole other subject you may look into and share. Maybe a holistic approach for the curious is what is needed - your thoughts? For the metaphysical there is also astral projection - a curious subject.
thank you for sharing
